With two intermarriages in the same generation–R. T. W. Duke, Jr. to Edith Ridgeway Slaugther and Charles Slaughter to Mary Willoughby Duke–the Slaughter and Duke families maintained very close connections. Shown here is a photograph of Edith Ridgeway Slaughter’s mother at the age of 83, in 1878.
